Chicago Bulls Goal No. 1 for Javonte Green: Earn Billy Donovan’s trust

Head coach Billy Donovan has a plethora of backcourt talent to choose from. Zach LaVine had a breakout season and became a first-time All-Star. Coby White appears to be the long-term solution at the starting point guard spot. Then there’s Ryan Arcidiacono and Tomas Satoransky, who’ve proven to be savvy veterans capable of making key contributions off the bench.

Javonte Green’s challenge is convincing Coach Donovan to take minutes away from these proven guards in order for him to play. During the 16 games Green suited up for Chicago towards the end of the season, he was most often put in the game alongside Coby White in order to give Zach LaVine a breather. However, if Green wants to see an increase in playing time he’s going to have to prove he’s more versatile than that.

In order to do so, Green is going to have to prove that he is a capable enough ball-handler to play alongside players who may not be playmakers. Satoransky, for example, is an excellent shooter who’s capable of getting hot and changing the momentum of the game. However, he’s not the guy you want putting the ball on the floor to create a shot. So far, Billy Donovan has wisely avoided having Green and Satoransky in the game together. In order for that to change next season, Green must take care of the ball, see the entire floor and find open teammates.
