Javonte Green has the potential to become a valuable rotation piece for the Chicago Bulls next season.

An athletic 6’4″ combo guard who is capable of guarding either backcourt position can impact the game in a variety of ways and at both ends of the floor. NBA history is full of guys like Michael Cooper and Mario Elie who weren’t stars but were key components of their team’s success. With the right guidance, Green could develop into this kind of player, particularly as his squad aims to make the NBA playoffs next season.

Javonte Green received limited playing time for the Chicago Bulls last season. In order to be a part of the regular rotation, he must improve. Here’s how.

The team acquired Green’s services as part of the same trade that landed them Daniel Theis from the Boston Celtics. He was able to appear in 16 games before the end of the regular season, showing flashes of things to come along the way. His ability to get out on the break and finish above the rim is reminiscent of a young Byron Scott. He’s also court savvy enough to be catch and shoot ready when a backcourt mate penetrates the lane and causes the defense to collapse.

Every team needs a glue guy; a player who’s comfortable in his role and willing to sacrifice individual numbers for the sake of the team. Javonte Green can be that type of player for Chicago. Here’s what he needs to do in order to make that a reality.
