Miami Heat: 3 goals going into the NBA playoffs
Goal No. 1 for the Miami Heat: Fix their rebounding issues
The Heat are one of the worst rebounding teams in the entire league. They only collect 41.6 rebounds per game which is 28th in the league. This is made up of 8.1 offensive rebounds per game which is 29th in the league, and 33.5 defensive rebounds per game which is 23rd in the league.
They are averaging these numbers despite having the services of Bam Adebayo who is averaging 9.0 rebounds per game and Jimmy Butler who averages 6.9 rebounds per game. Dewayne Dedmon who has signed on for the last part of the season is also averaging 5.3 rebounds per game.
Part of the reason the Heat had such a low offensive rebounding number is they are a perimeter-based team. Long shots equal long rebounds and this brings in the perimeter defenders who are able to box out their opposition and gather in the rebound.
However, what is unforgivable is the Heat are not getting to the defensive rebounds. This is a massive difference from last season. The Heat are collecting 6.3 percent less defensive rebounds this season and it could make getting into the finals a very difficult mountain to climb.
