Goal No. 2 for the Miami Heat: Defend the perimeter

The Heat are one of the more devastating teams offensively from the perimeter. When Duncan Robinson or Tyler Herro are going, the Heat are tough to stop. However, they are not known for their defensive prowess on the perimeter.

Inside the arc, the Heat are in a better place, they are first in the league in 2-point field goal attempts against and made against. This is where having the defensive prowess of Adebayo comes into play. Players just don’t want their shots erased by the big man.

This means that the Heat have to be beaten on the perimeter. Teams take 39.2 attempts from the outside which is the second-worst number in the league. They make 14.3 of their attempts against the Heat which is 27th in the league.

This means the Heat allow their opposition to make their 3-point attempts at 36.6 percent which is 12th in the league. Coming into the playoffs, they are going to come up against the best perimeter teams in the association. Depending on where they finish, they could come up against the Brooklyn Nets.

This team has Kyrie Irving, Joe Harris, James Harden, and Kevin Durant who can all hurt you repeatedly from the perimeter. If the Heat come up against the Nets in the second round, they will not have the same fairytale run into the Finals.
