Lessons learned from past disappointments

Legendary actor Jon Voight once said, “Sometimes a little heartbreak is a lesson, and the best thing to do is just learn the lesson.” Over the past two seasons, the Milwaukee Bucks have had more than their share of heartbreaks to learn from.

Giannis Antetokounmpo will forever feel the sting of his infamous stat line of twelve points and six fouls in Game 3 of the 2019 Eastern Conference Finals. It was that double-overtime loss to the Toronto Raptors many feel stole the momentum, and possibly even the series itself away from the Bucks. If Milwaukee wins that game, they take a commanding 3-0 lead. It’s hard to imagine Toronto overcoming that kind of deficit.

Last season, Milwaukee again entered the playoffs as the favorites to emerge from the Eastern Conference. However, with the Greek Freak hobbled by injury, Jimmy Butler seized the moment and showed the world that the Miami Heat have a superstar of their own. Bucks fans would have to suffer through a five-game series loss and wait another season for their shot to make it to the Finals.

The regular season is more than just the determining factor in playoff position; it is an exercise meant to prepare teams for their postseason destiny. This year’s Milwaukee Bucks are as equipped as any recent version of the team to make a deep run through the playoffs. The team is prepared to not just compete, but to thrive. Now the only thing left to do is make that dream a reality.
