Third season with Mike Budenholzer

In Rick Carlisle’s first season as head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, the team went 50-32. Hopes were high that they could make a deep playoff run. However, Carmelo Anthony and the Denver Nuggets put a stop to those aspirations when they beat Dallas 4-1 in the second round of the playoffs. The next season, the team made a five-game improvement in the regular season but lost to the San Antonio Spurs in six games in the first round of the playoffs.

However, Carlisle’s third season at the helm was a breakthrough season for the franchise. Dirk Nowitzki went on a postseason run for the ages and the underdog Mavericks upset the favored Miami Heat in six games in the NBA Finals to become champions. The adage that “the third time’s a charm” even holds in other sports. Nick Saban’s epic run with the Alabama Crimson Tide started with a National Championship in his third season at the helm.

In his first season as head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, Mike Budenholzer won the NBA Coach of The Year Award. In each of his first two seasons with the team, they ended the regular season with the best record in the league. However, since he arrived in Milwaukee, Budenholzer has been very clear that the team’s goal is to win the NBA championship. After two seasons of disappointment, his players believe in him now more than ever. This could be the year everything falls in place and they finally achieve their goal.
