NBA Rumors: Players most likely to be traded this offseason
By Corey Rausch
Lauri Markkanen
In the midst of his fourth season, Lauri Markkanen currently holds more questions than answers. It was widely reported that he was available at the deadline and while nothing came together to see him moved that does not mean his situation has not gotten murkier. After the dust settled the Bulls had Nikola Vucevic and Daniel Theis to add to an already clogged frontcourt of Markkanen, Patrick Williams and Thaddeus Young.
Markkanen is a restricted free agent this summer, and that further complicates the issue. When he has been on the court this season he has been good. He is averaging 17.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.0 assists on shooting splits of .482/.390/.836. Even as the box score numbers are dipping the efficiency is improving, which is a good sign. Availability has been a whole other issue.
Markkanen has missed at least 15 games every season and has missed 20 so far this season. This has clouded the amount of progress he has been able to make. He is less than solid on the defensive end of the court and it makes his fit next to Vucevic going forward challenging for a team planning to win games. Figuring out a sign and trade for Markkanen this offseason feels like the best-case scenario for both sides.
