NBA Trade Rumors: Ideal spot for J.J. Redick – Dallas Mavericks
Redick has earned his reputation as one of the best 3-point shooters to ever play in the NBA, shooting 41.4 percent on 5.1 attempts from behind the arc for his career. That 3-point prowess that Redick possesses could certainly be desirable for the Dallas Mavericks, who are currently shooting the worst percentage from long-range in the league.
Dallas is knocking down just 32.8 percent of their triples this season, and it has been clearly apparent throughout their first 19 games that they desperately need more shooters. The Mavericks are 8-12 on the year, and for a team that was supposed to be title contenders with Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis leading the charge, they have not lived up to expectations thus far.
Based on his reputation, Redick would be the ideal piece to add for Dallas right now. However, he is currently having one of his worst shooting seasons ever, and that does cause some hesitation. The 14-year veteran is averaging just 7.9 points per game, shooting 33.6 percent from the floor and an awful 29.8 percent from distance, both career lows.
Those numbers are certainly not ideal for Dallas, but perhaps they would be willing to roll the dice to patch one of their biggest needs. Being a career 41.1 percent shooter from the perimeter, Redick has to be able to flip the switch at some point and turn into his old self. A change of scenery could do wonders for the veteran guard, especially with the open looks he would get playing next to Luka Doncic nightly.
Redick will collect $13 million this season before entering free agency, making his salary digestible for the Dallas Mavericks. If they believe Redick can return to form and help space the floor efficiently, they make the most sense as a trade destination for the sharpshooter.
