Miami Heat: A trade for Victor Oladipo and P.J. Tucker
What could an equally appealing Victor Oladipo trade look like?
Unfortunately, salary restrictions concerning both parties leave us with very little room to wiggle. As a result, in order to complete this trade, it’s almost inevitable that certain names will be included in the trade proposal.
As mentioned above, the Rockets are with their backs against the wall. Pat Riley could very easily exploit this situation by avoiding parting ways with either Tyler Herro or Duncan Robinson. But still, the Rockets would have to receive at least some youth in order to make this trade appealing.
Kendrick Nunn was a surprise last season. He went from being undrafted to a member of the All-Rookie First Team all within the span of a season. He became the first undrafted rookie to win the Rookie of the Month award multiple times (3), as well as the first to score over 1,000 points during their rookie campaign.
The future is bright for Nunn who has had his growth stifled, even since the Heat figured out they were contenders last season. Now on his sophomore season, his numbers have improved everywhere but his playing time column, where he has seen a 6.5 minute per game decrease.
Andre Iguodala and Meyers Leonard would be the two departures, as they are the only ones with pretty hefty contracts that could be used to match the salaries that Oladipo and Tucker will carry with them from Texas.
The Heat, on the other hand, would certainly sacrifice a part of their future, in exchange for an instant improvement at the backcourt. Oladipo and Jimmy Butler share many similarities, both on the court and regarding their work ethic. This could actually be a dream partnership in Miami.
When it comes to Tucker, Eric Spoelstra gets an immediate improvement over Andre Iguodala, whose contract nowadays does not reflect his basketball contributions. Last but not least, the possible absence of Meyers Leonard would probably sadden very few Miami Heat fans.
