New Orleans Pelicans trade target No. 2 – Lou Williams, LA Clippers

When discussing the greatest sixth man ever, Lou Williams is a name that has to come up in the conversation. The guard has three Sixth Man of the Year awards under his belt throughout his career, and the presence he provides off the bench makes him an ideal fit for the New Orleans Pelicans to target.

Williams is an offensive specialist, having averaged 20.4 points on .427/.358/.874 shooting and 5.4 assists per game during the past three seasons with the LA Clippers. Despite being an integral part of their recent success, rumors swirled that LA might look to deal Willams after his poor showing in the team’s latest postseason debacle.

If that is still the case, the New Orleans Pelicans should make a run at the 34-year-old, as he fits the bill for their needs. Williams provides that much-needed scoring and playmaking punch off the bench, all the while bringing some veteran experience for a team looking to find their identity. The guard checks off many of the same boxes as Derrick Rose, but Williams is a far better floor spacer, which could make him the more desirable trade target.

Williams will make an expiring $8 million this season, which is easily digestible for teams such as New Orleans looking to make a move for him. The LA Clippers are currently deprived of draft picks over the next several news, and perhaps the New Orleans Pelicans could utilize their own to extend a persuasive offer in their direction.
