Brooklyn Nets: 3 free agents to target with their Disabled Player Exception
By Dalton Sell
Free agent target No. 2 – Rondae Hollis-Jefferson
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson joined the Minnesota Timberwolves this offseason on a training camp deal and immediately made a solid impact in the preseason. Hollis-Jefferson looked like he could be a promising piece in Minnesota’s second unit this coming season. Still, they ended up waiving the swingman before the season in a surprising turn of events.
The 26-year-old spent the first four seasons of his career with the Brooklyn Nets, and they should look to pursue a reunion. Hollis-Jefferson is a defensive specialist and someone who can help Brooklyn on impact because of the versatility he brings to the table. The swingman can guard positions one through four, something that the Nets desperately need as their defensive woes continue to plague them.
While he could surely bolster Brooklyn’s defensive shortcomings, one downside to Rondae is his limited offensive arsenal. Over his five seasons in the league, his career averages come in at 9.3 points per game on 44.8 percent field goal shooting and a vile 21.3 percent from 3-point territory. However, on a team full of offensive-minded players such as Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Joe Harris, and Caris LeVert, Hollis-Jefferson will certainly not be burdened with scoring the basketball too often.
That makes him an ideal free agent target for the Brooklyn Nets with their defense struggling. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson would give them a solid defender to utilize nightly, and he is quite familiar with the organization itself.
