San Antonio Spurs: 3 season goals for DeMar DeRozan in 2020-21
2. Keep his field goal percentage above 50
As discussed earlier, DeRozan shot 53.1 percent from the floor. This was the first time in his career he was able to shoot more than 50 percent from the floor in a season. A big part of that was DeRozan had a coach who understood his game and did not try to change him.
The NBA has gone to the perimeter offensive game over the mid-range or the post. As such, players like DeRozan are being asked to change their games. During his last season in Toronto, DeRozan shot the ball from deep 3.6 times per game. This is too often for a career 28.2 percent shooter from behind the arc.

DeRozan shot the 3-ball 0.5 times per game in his second season for the Spurs. This meant that he shot the ball 14.9 times per game from inside the arc. This equates to 96.7 percent of his shots being taken from 2-point territory.
Drilling down further, DeRozan took 77.7 percent of all his shots from within 16 feet and this is where DeRozan was money. If the Spurs can find another 3-point shooter to replace Bryn Forbes, DeRozan should have the space to continue to shoot at a high level.
