3. Continue to distribute the ball well

Over the past three seasons, DeRozan has stepped up his passing game. During his final season with the Toronto Raptors, DeRozan averaged 5.2 assists per game. This was the first time in his career that DeRozan averaged more than five assists per game.

During his first season with the Spurs, DeRozan averaged 6.2 assists per game. This just showed the talent of DeRozan to be able to slot into the Spurs’ offense and make the right plays.

Last season DeRozan averaged 5.6 assists, which was just down from the year prior. The problem with assist numbers is you rely on your teammates to make the shot. The Spurs were not great from the floor last season so this decline is more related to the other players on the court, rather than DeRozan not passing as much.

This season, DeRozan is going to want to make it back to the postseason. He is also looking at getting the final big payday of his career. He will continue to score at the elite level that he has shown throughout his career, it will be his assist numbers that could determine where he signs and how much he can get.
