Milwaukee Bucks Starting Lineup: Potential Break-Ins

Most of the Milwaukee Bucks’ starters should be consistently finalized without much critical decision-making, but if injuries were to take place or something drastic were to occur that forces the Bucks to make changes, some players could have the potential to break into the starting lineup.

Torrey Craig

After spending the last few seasons serving as a strong defensive contributor for the Denver Nuggets, Torrey Craig comes to Milwaukee with aspirations of winning an NBA championship. His mentality and versatility as a defender will make him a key piece to Milwaukee’s success, and there’s no doubt that he’ll earn minutes on the floor. He could become a starter in certain situations, but his most understandable role will be as a rotational player similar to his time in the Mile High City.

Pat Connaughton

Re-signing Pat Connaughton during free agency was a move that Mike Budenholzer seemed to want. Connaughton is well-respected amongst the locker room, plays with much-needed energy and intensity, displays tremendous athleticism, and spaces the floor well. Although, he’s only started 12 games throughout his five-year career and has always been known as a rotational player off the bench. In fact, Pat was the lead initiator of forming the so-called ‘Bench Mob’  that he and the other Bucks players off the bench referred to themselves as to take pride in their role. Connaughton will surely come off the bench again, but he’s at least an option to be elevated due to his experience, relationship with Budenholzer, and fit alongside the other starters.

D.J. Augustin

The Bucks brought in 33-year-old veteran guard D.J. Augustin during free agency to take the place of George Hill as the backup point guard. Augustin would only start if Jrue Holiday were to miss time since he’ll have an important role leading the second unit and being that shot creator and facilitator off the bench. He should rarely start for the Bucks this season if at all, but expect him to be in the closing lineup when crunch time comes around.

Bobby Portis and Jordan Nwora would also become potential candidates to crack into the starting lineup at some points throughout the season, but only in the case of injuries or rest for the regular starters.

The Milwaukee Bucks should have a strong starting lineup backed by substantial depth this season and will have advantageous flexibility with various lineups as they pursue their second NBA championship in franchise history.
