1. Lead the league in steals

Dejounte Murray is an incredibly high-IQ defender as shown by the fact he was named to the All-Defensive Team in just his second season. He makes the right call when it comes to going over or under screens and uses his length to impact shots.

He has also made a nuisance of himself by getting into passing lanes and stealing the ball. He has averaged 1.2 steals per game for his career. If you take out the first season where he had 0.2 steals in 8.5 minutes. he averages 1.4 per game.

Murray averaged 1.7 per game last season which was good enough for ninth in the league. His 111 total steals was fourth in the league, equal with Chris Paul and only 14 steals behind James Harden.

Murray was only 0.4 steals per game behind Ben Simmons who averaged 2.1 steals per game. He does not have to increase his production too much to get to the top in this category. This is going to help the Spurs defense which was not up to its usual standard last season.

Murray has developed every year and the 2020-21 season should be no exception. He is now a leader for the young core that the Spurs are developing. As a result, he will look to take the team on his shoulders more, showing that he can be a key piece of the Spurs’ future.
