5. Jared Jeffries (5 years, $30 million)

Isiah Thomas’ tenure with the New York Knicks included some bad moments. The rest were really…really bad moments. One of them has to be the contract which he offered to Jared Jeffries during the summer of 2006.

This may not seem like that big of a deal at first, it quickly becomes one, though, when you take a lot at what he accomplished during his stay in New York.

In a total of 299 games with the Knicks, Jeffries averaged 4.3 points per game on 42.6 percent shooting from the field and 25 percent from behind the arc. But wait, it gets even better: Jeffries started in about half of those games, averaging about 22 minutes per night.

Approximately one-tenth of the entire team’s salary went straight to Jared’s pocket, giving almost nothing in return. Thomas used Jeffries as either a small or a power forward, though no adjustment could make him helpful enough for the Knicks.

After Isiah’s departure, the New York Knicks managed to offload his incredibly unappealing contract to the Houston Rockets. In that deal, they received an aging Tracy McGrady who was much more useful for the team, even after all his unfortunate injuries.
