2. Derrick White

Let’s just begin by stating the obvious: If Derrick White began his playing career about a decade earlier, Chicago Thibodeau would have done anything in his power to add him to his team. He and Thibs are a match made in heaven.

When it comes to shooting and scoring the basketball, White is just fine, though nothing spectacular whatsoever. It is when you glance at his defensive stats that you understand exactly how blessed Gregg Popovich is to have a gem like him.

During the season that is about to conclude, Derrick White led all point guards in blocks per game and was tied with James Harden in the same category amongst all guards. Additionally, he was fifth in the league in charges drawn with 0.44 per game.

White is by no means a player that will take over a game or turn an entire franchise around. What he is, though, is someone that plays his heart out every single time. Hustle has become his middle name and he can be a very important piece to any team.

For the first time in what seems like ages, the San Antonio Spurs are stuck in mediocrity. It is a given that they won’t be contending for the playoffs anytime soon, meaning that a total overhaul could be the best option for them.

White has one more year on his contract but is tradeable. His extremely small contract means that he can be easily exchanged for a Knick on a rookie deal, like Kevin Knox or Dennis Smith Jr., both of which could take their next step under coach Pop.
