3. Sign Derrick Favors

The long-time Utah Jazz power forward, Derrick Favors was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans for a bunch of second-round draft picks prior to the start of last season. The 29-year-old was a true professional, almost averaging a double-double for his new team.

Favors has probably only got one more reasonable sized deal in him. It is going to be difficult for the Pelicans to offer him a great deal given they will want to re-sign Brandon Ingram as a top priority given that he was the team’s top scorer and the NBA’s Most Improved Player award.

The Hawks need a versatile frontcourt player and Favors fits the bill. He played alongside Rudy Gobert for years before moving to the center position for the Pelicans. Imagine the rotations which will be available for the Hawks if they sign the Georgia native.

Clint Capela should be back next season and should start considering how well he played in Houston. Dewayne Dedmon would back him up meaning that there is always a rim protector on the court at all times.

John Collins is a tremendous stretch-four prospect who shot the 3-ball at a 40.1 percent clip this season. Having the ability to bring Favors off the bench when Collins needs a rest gives the Hawks a frontcourt who would be very tough to score against, be they starters or bench players.

Trae Young is not strong defensively so getting all the help that the Hawks can in this area improves them exponentially.
