Will Miami’s 3-point shooting translate to the playoffs?

The Miami Heat not only have some shooters, but they also have one of the best shooters in the league. This season they have been the best shooting team. They rank sixth in 3-point makes with 13.5 and ninth in attempts at 35.4 on a league-best 38.1 percent.

Throughout the season, they were led by the best shooter in the league in Robinson. What he was doing this season was historic. He was attempting 8.4 3-pointers while ranking fourth in 3-point percentage at 44.6 percent. He also ranked second in both true shooting and effective field goal percentage.

And what makes the Heat so dangerous is he wasn’t the only one having a great shooting season.

The Heat have seven players that made at least one three per game. Four of the players are shooting over 40.0 percent.

However, in the bubble, the Heat have dropped down to earth slightly. In the bubble, they are 13th in 3-point percentage at 35.9 – 2.2 percent lower than before. They are making more and attempting, though.

They may have decreased in efficiency as a team, Miami’s two-best shooters have been playing out of the world. Robinson is attempting and making more on a higher percentage. But Jae Crowder is taking almost six 3-pointers while shooting 56.4 percent.

That kind of level isn’t sustainable by any means, but how much will the playoffs affect the team’s shooting? We already saw what happens when a team plans specifically to shutdown Robinson and what that does to the team’s offense. It just dies out.

And the playoff atmosphere is a different story. The teams have more time to gameplan for you and the game slows down.

The Miami Heat are almost winless when they don’t shoot well, but they are also almost always without a loss when they shoot lights out. The Pacers do have one of the better defenses, so this could pose some problems for the Heat.
