3: Game 48

Celtics 116 – 76ers 95

The Philadephia 76ers have seemingly been a disappointment this season, but before they fell apart, the Sixers were in a four-team race for the two-seed in the Eastern Conference, as well as the Celtics, who were just a few games ahead in the standings. Philadephia, with their big lineup, on paper, could exploit every single one of Boston’s weaknesses and had earlier in the season.

However, was a must-win for Boston, even though Walker was hurt. As expected, the Celtics leaned on Brown and Tatum. Brown was motivated to win, “I haven’t played as well against Philly as I would have liked the first three times,” he said about the game. All this while Tatum was heating up on his All-Star tour.

The Celtics had a 10 point run in the first quarter, giving themselves a 13-point lead, highlighted by Tatum’s 11 points. Then, for every other quarter, Brown became the leading scorer.

The Boston Celtics saw and exploited the 76ers greatest flaw, forcing them to shoot seven for 33 from the 3-point arc. Although Brown did not have his best night from downtown, going 1-of-10, it did not matter due to his impact in every other aspect of the game, and his ability to hinder the 76ers from combating him behind the line.

Jaylen Brown was able to lead the team in points, rebounds, steals, plus/minus, all while allowing his opponents to shoot just 3-of-12 from the floor. In the 32-point performance, Brown shot 57 percent from the floor which including the miserable effort from 3.

Even though Gordan Hayward only scored four points, Tatum and Brown’s combined 57 points were enough to show that the duo was going to eventually do something great. Even against some of the top teams in the East, the couple was able to pull through together.
