4. Game 26

Celtics 114 – Pistons 93

In all honesty, the Pistons were not the most competitive team in the NBA, especially in December with several injuries. Nevertheless, Jaylen Brown’s efforts were admirable. The Celtics also had their fair share of injuries as well, including Hayward and Smart. Thus, the Celtics had to experiment with their lineup.

Early the game, Boston as cold. The Celtics struggled to marshal a sizable lead in the first quarter where Jayson Tatum scored nearly half of the team’s 28 points. In the second, it was Jaylen’s turn.

The Celtics went on an 11-0 run early in the second, through transitional offense and forced turnovers. With about 90 seconds left in the second, Brown hit a three, celebrated, turned around, stole the ball, and then hit another three. In nine seconds, Jaylen Brown was able to score six points!

Brown had one more four-point play to cap the quarter off, as the Celtics led by 12 going in the locker room. In the quarter, the shooting guard had a cumulative point total of 15, as well as a couple of steals.

In the third, the Celtics added 10 more points to their lead, while Brown was able to score seven more, and the game seemed all but over. In the final period, the starters sat, Tacko Fall got some action and the Celtics won easily.

During the game, Kemba Walker went zero for six and was last in scoring, but the efforts by the young duo of Tatum and Brown more than made up for the poor performance. The two each had a respectable 26 points and five rebounds. Brown had the assist, steal, block, and efficient advantages though.

Other than Fall, who went 2-of-2, Brown was the team leader in true shooting, effective field goal percentage and field goal percentage. Grant Williams did have a better 3-point percentage, going 2-of-3, while Brown went 4-of-7. Still, in just 29 minutes, it was one of Brown’s most memorable games in his short career.
