Los Angeles Lakers: Examining a trade for Victor Oladipo
The Los Angeles Lakers perspective
As mentioned before, the Lakers are deeply considering investing in a third star to add to their team and Oladipo might just be the best option out of the group.
So what exactly would Victor Oladipo bring into this squad that wasn’t already there? Picture his role as being an Avery Bradley type of player, but with the ability to score 15-20 points per game.
During his first All-Star season in 2017-18, he averaged 23.1 points per game, while leading the league in steals and making the All-NBA third team. Last season, he took a step back before his injury, taking a more playmaking role in a much more well-rounded Indiana team, earning his second All-Star selection.
He would, unfortunately, get injured, missing more than a year of basketball activities. This season so far, he’s appeared a bit inconsistent but that is totally excusable, given his absence from the game. His game is pretty simple, meaning that he should be back to his normal self in no time.
Anthony Davis is an elite defender, but way too big to guard the smaller offensive threats. LeBron is, to this day, incredible but is getting up there in age. That is where Victor clicks in, bound to relieve LeBron of his defensive duties, guarding players like Kawhi Leonard and James Harden.
Additionally, Oladipo might be one of the easiest All-Stars to trade for at the moment, as his trade value has dropped significantly. Trade packages for players like Booker and Beal would have to include a ton of young players and draft picks, which the Lakers do not have. The New Orleans Pelicans do, though.
