Joe Harris

Joe Harris has been one of the best players to come out of the NBA G League, eventually being picked up by the Brooklyn Nets and signing a two-year deal for his stellar shooting. His progress led to him being selected for Team USA’s FIBA 2019 World Cup campaign and winning the NBA 3-point contest in 2019. Harris will enter unrestricted free agency after the season.

More from Hoops Habit

He has been a staple of the Brooklyn Nets; his beard making him fit into the hipster coffee culture of Brooklyn, but not only in café’s he’s been fitting in both on the court and off. Harris started every game he played and only missed one game with a sore back all season. He averaged 13.9 points per game and took 5.9 attempts from 3 making 41 percent of them before the shutdown of the league.

The Nets have had a peculiar season with trying to integrate Kyrie Irving with also knowing that Kevin Durant’s eventual return looms. Despite the issues with role defining the Nets core which Harris is integral to, alongside Spencer Dinwiddie and Caris LeVert has kept them in the playoff chase currently sit seventh in the East.

Harris is not just another Kyle Korver as he is an underrated passer within a team system that encourages ball movement such as Kenny Atkinson’s. Harris’s best passing year was in the 2018-19 season, where he saw his more ball-handling then this current season with Irving coming in.

Harris average 2.4 per game along with a league-best 47 percent from behind the arc in 2018-19. Not only is he a solid ball mover, but he is also a capable team defender. You couldn’t put him on an island to guard a player but is able to slip through screens and switch with his 6’6” frame and equal wingspan allowing him to cover 1-4 in today’s small-ball lineups.

The Bulls could use some more veteran wings as Shaquille Harrison and Denzel Valentine received an uncomfortable number of minutes as the Bulls small forward this season. Harris would slide into the line-up and possibly provide a 5-out lineup, with Wendell Carter getting all the space he needs in the low post or for Zach LaVine to get a runway to the rim if Harris was signed.
