3. Los Angeles Clippers

Keep your eyes on the Los Angeles Clippers as a potential destination for Tristan Thompson in this upcoming free agency.

The Clippers could look to add depth in their frontcourt, especially if they lose Montrezl Harrell, who will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason as well.

Ivica Zubac is currently their starting center, but he’s more of a role player since he only plays an average of around 18 minutes per game. Mfiondu Kabengele, a 2019 first-round pick, is the only other center on contract for next season, but he’s still a young prospect who hasn’t been inserted into the regular rotation yet.

If Tristan Thompson and the Clippers can agree to terms on an appropriate contract, Thompson could earn the starting center position and establish an important role throughout the Clippers’ quest to a championship.

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

Thompson is one of those tenacious rebounders that are valued on both ends of the floor since they continuously create opportunities for second-chance points offensively and clear the glass on the defensive end.

During the 2019-20 NBA season, Thompson averaged 4.0 offensive rebounds per game and had an offensive rebound percentage of 14.5, which ranked 3rd in the league per Basketball-Reference.

His appreciative rebounding abilities were valuable to the Cavaliers championship run in 2016 when he played alongside superstars LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.

Thompson would be beneficial to superstars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George on the Clippers as well. His consistent rebounding would be most valuable to the team and to their star players due to his capabilities of crashing the boards and creating more opportunities offensively.

His presence would also provide more championship experience and a strong work ethic.

I assume Thompson will be looking to sign with a title-contending team and the Clippers could be eyeing an experienced center that would complement their star players this offseason, so both parties would mutually benefit from one another.

Tristan Thompson signing with the Clippers could be a very realistic option once free agency arrives.
