Brooklyn Nets: 3 stars not named Bradley Beal to target this offseason
By Dalton Sell
Jrue Holiday
Arguably the most underrated player in the NBA today, Jrue Holiday has been a highly coveted name on the trade market for the past few seasons. If this is the offseason when the New Orleans Pelicans could finally decide to trade him, the Brooklyn Nets should make their best pitch.
New Orleans toyed with the idea of trading Holiday early into this season but backed out when Zion Williamson debuted, and the team made a run for the postseason. Regardless, Holiday has two years left on his current deal, scheduled to make $25 million next season and $26 million the following, if he ultimately opts into his player option.
Holiday will become eligible for a contract extension this summer, but may not fit in well with New Orleans’ long term plans. With their Big 3 of Zion, Lonzo Ball, and Brandon Ingram all under 23 years old, the Pelicans could look to go in another direction for the long-haul rather than give an aging Holiday an extension.
Depending on what transpires with the NBA’s potential return looming, the Nets should go all-in on Jrue Holiday in an attempt to pry him away from the Pelicans. An unselfish shooting guard with extraordinary talent on either side of the ball, Holiday would fit in perfectly with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Adding Holiday would form arguably the NBA’s best Big 3 and put the Brooklyn Nets over the top right from the jump next season as the title favorites.
The guard averaged 19.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game this season, having taken a step back from last season due to the roster’s added young talent. Putting him into the best situation of his career to contend in Brooklyn could allow him to receive that recognition he rightfully deserves as one of the top guards today.
If the guard does indeed become available this offseason, the Brooklyn Nets need to inquire about a blockbuster trade involving Jrue Holiday.
