Aaron Gordon

For two years straight, Aaron Gordon’s production has decreased for the Orlando Magic and has been a name dangled in trade discussions because of it. The forward has needed a fresh start elsewhere for a while now, and a new home with the Brooklyn Nets could sound enticing to all parties involved.

A significant part of Gordon’s minimized contributions has taken place because of their jam-packed frontcourt. With Mo Bamba, Nikola Vucevic, Jonathan Isaac, Khem Birch, and Al-Farouq Aminu all in the rotation alongside him, Gordon’s production drop should not all get placed on his shoulders. Gordon averaged 14.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game this season, having performed far below many people’s expectations.

With their jam-packed frontcourt not changing anytime soon, placing him on the trade block this offseason is very likely, with several teams as potential suitors.

As for the Brooklyn Nets, they find themselves in a position opposite Orlando and could use an upgrade at the power forward position. Rodions Kurucs and Nicolas Claxton primarily occupied the position this season, both rather inexperienced.

Trading for Gordon would fill that hole in Brooklyn’s roster and give the forward a chance to revitalize his career in a new setting.

Playing alongside two solidified stars in Irving and Durant would elevate Gordon’s play significantly. The 24-year-old has never been a prominent 3-point shooter, but with the spacing created from Brooklyn’s dynamic duo, he could thrive inside.

Gordon has two years left on his current deal, about $18 million for next season, and $16 million, and could be an affordable option with the right pieces moved. The forward could fit in well with Brooklyn’s current scheme and should be on their radar this offseason.
