Derrick Rose of the Detroit Pistons drew significant interest as a trade target this season, which is likely to carry over into the NBA offseason.

Derrick Rose‘s NBA career has been quite the roller coaster ride to this point. From the league’s Most Valuable Player in 2011 to searching for a job several years later, to his resurgence with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Rose’s career has been a mixed bag.

Regardless, while he is not the same player that won MVP nearly a decade ago, Rose proved this season with the Detroit Pistons that he can still provide plenty for a team. Having played in 50 games, Rose was primarily the team’s sixth man as he only started 15 games.

Throughout those 50 games, Rose averaged 18.1 points and 5.6 assists per game, his most in either category since the 2011-12 season. Overall, Rose had a fantastic individual season, even though the Detroit Pistons’ success plummeted due to several injuries to key players, which included Rose himself for some time.

Still, several teams were intrigued with Rose’s availability through trade during this past season in hopes to bolster their roster. With Detroit having struggled, it seemed like a genuine possibility he would get traded. However, they kept him for the time being, and talks could reignite this offseason if teams remain interested.

Several contending teams could utilize a player like Derrick Rose on their roster, particularly those in need of a sixth man to run their second unit. The 31-year-old has a vast injury history, but if a team were to bring in Rose for that minimized role, he could flourish.

His ability to create his own shot and play-making are both things that teams in need of an offensive spark could use. Mixed with his $7.5 million salary for next season, Rose remains a very affordable option for contenders seeking cheap assistance, which makes him all the more desirable.

With that, here are three teams that should pursue a trade for Derrick Rose this offseason.
