The Last Dance: Dennis Rodman’s top moments with the Chicago Bulls
2. Jan. 16, 1996: Dennis Rodman tallies first and only triple-double against Philadelphia 76ers
On the surface, adding Rodman to the mix was a high-risk, high-reward mix at best. However, it didn’t take long for fans to see what he brought to the table on a nightly basis.
Through his first three games in a Bulls uniform, he averaged 10.7 boards per contest. After a somewhat quiet start though, Rodman went on to collect at least 15 rebounds in six of his next seven games. This includes a three-game stretch in which he posted 20-plus rebounds.
Against the Philadephia 76ers, Rodman’s presence on the glass was on full display. Not only did he pull down 21 rebounds (nine on the offensive end), he also chipped in with 10 points (on 4-for-8 shooting) 10 assists and a pair of blocks as well. The significance of this stat is it was the first and only triple-double of his career.
Thanks to Rodman’s efforts, the Bulls went on to beat the 76ers by a 116-104 margin to extend their winning streak to nine games. It would be another two weeks before the Bulls would lose another game as they went on to win an impressive 18 straight contests.
