Are they committed to Andrew Wiggins?

When the Warriors traded Kevin Durant and a first-round pick in the sign-and-trade deal that brought D’Angelo Russell to the Bay, the trade rumors began circling the guard immediately.

Assuming Curry and Thompson were healthy, a three-guard lineup featuring all three didn’t hold much promise on either the offensive or defensive end of the ball. Still, head coach Steve Kerr was quick to dismiss any on-court difficulties in the potential three-man lineup.

Lo and behold, to the surprise of few, the Warriors traded Russell at the first available moment.

But now, all they’ve received in return is another youth in need of development 2014 first overall pick and former Kansas product, Andrew Wiggins. He’s a year deeper into his career than Russell, and ultimately has a lower ceiling as a talent.

For the Warriors system, however, he makes far more sense. On opening night, Golden State could introduce a Curry-Thompson-Wiggins-Green-*enter random center* lineup. But they should only do so if they’re truly committed to the former first overall pick and his development.

Because if they’re not, and they need to trade off his $29 million salary…
