We barely knew thee

Between the trade deadline and the delay of the season, a few players got a chance to get a shot to either earn a place with the Pistons next season or show another team why they should sign them this summer. Given that the season was cut short so quickly into their time here it is not hard to imagine they will all be on the way out.

Jordan McRae is the most likely casualty of this. Being signed to a 10-day contract is always a tenuous situation in the best of times. These are not the best of times obviously but it is more than that.

McRae turned 29 this season and if the Pistons are looking to take swings on potential the younger players will be more likely to get a shot. He acquitted himself well in a short stint with the team but there was no guarantee he was going to land a second 10-day contract, let alone a spot on the team next season.

The two players brought back in the Andre Drummond trade, John Henson and Brandon Knight, were essentially brought in because they were expiring contracts. Henson started six of his 11 games with the team and provided a solid veteran presence.

Knight started three of nine games, averaging nearly 12 points per game and shooting 38.8 percent from distance in under 25 minutes per game. Both players showed that they still belong in the league and could fill a veteran role if the team would want to keep them as a locker room presence for a rebuilding team.

While these guys all were adequate for a losing team they just feel like they fit better elsewhere and honestly could have a better role for themselves on another team. It is very likely that none of these three returns.
