3. Everything John Beilein
One day, books may be written about the woeful and brief John Beilein era with the Cleveland Cavaliers. It was clear from the start that the fit was bizarre as Beilein was the oldest rookie coach in NBA history with no NBA experience.
He never adjusted to the NBA game or related to his players and had an infamous film session incident where he said his players had stopped playing “like a bunch of thugs”, apparently meaning to say “slugs” instead.
Cavs players and assistant coaches were stunned and Beilein never really recovered. During the All-Star break, it was announced that he and the Cleveland Cavaliers organization were working towards an agreement that would result in him leaving his coaching job, just half a season into his five-year contract.

In a way, there was a nobility to realizing this job simply wasn’t for him and not wasting any more of his own or the organization’s time. It was noble, but most seasons it would be the strangest event of the whole year by a long shot.
Unfortunately, in the 2019-20 season, it doesn’t even come close to making the top two.
Things do not get happier from this point forward.
