5. Jan. 5, 2020: Davis, Lakers have huge block party against Pistons

On paper, this game appeared to be a mismatch. After all, Los Angeles had won 80 percent of its games while the Detroit Pistons were 10 games below the .500 mark.

Despite the disparity of talent between the two teams, the Pistons hung tough with the Lakers almost down to the final buzzer before the Lakers pulled away for a 106-99 victory.

LeBron James recorded the 90th triple-double of his career, scoring 21 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists. Despite a solid performance from King James, it was Davis and the team’s defense that grabbed the headlines in this one. AD scored 24 points (including 11 in the final 3:40) and pulled down 11 rebounds. Davis also had a great night protecting the paint with eight blocks.

Despite shooting just 37.2 percent from the field, the Pistons made sure this was a competitive affair, converting 30 of 35 attempts from the charity stripe and scoring 68 points in the paint.

The Lakers recorded 20 blocks in this contest — just once shy of their franchise-record — becoming the first team to post 20 blocks in a game since the Toronto Raptors accomplished the feat back November of 2001 and they needed every single one of them to pull this one out.
