5. The resurgence of Goran Dragic

In his first season exclusively coming off the bench, Goran Dragic has shined. He has been a great offensive spark plug for Miami this season.

For the past seven seasons of his career, Dragic has been the starter. This season, the 33-year-old became the sixth man. He has averaged 16.1 points and 5.1 assists per game on 43.7 percent from the field and 37.7 percent from 3. This season has been one of Dragic’s most efficient, partly because he’s shooting from beyond the arc more than ever before at 5.8 3-point attempts per game.

Despite being seventh on Miami in minutes per game, Dragic ranks third in points per game, tied for third in assists per game and fourth in 3-pointers per game. He has the sixth-highest 3-point percentage and matched his career-high in 3-pointers in one game with seven.

Dragic is the key cog in Miami’s strong bench unit. Out of every bench unit in the league, the Heat’s reserves rank second in 3-pointers per game, tied for third in 3-point percentage and seventh in points per game.

Last season, Dragic played only 36 games due to an ankle injury. His stats went down across the board and it seemed as though the 32-year-old would soon be unable to contribute. This season proved Dragic still had more in the tank. With his contract expiring after this season, it’s worth keeping an eye out for how much he’ll sign for.
