Detroit Pistons: Key players with something to prove down the stretch
By Corey Rausch
John Henson and Brandon Knight
Many fans bemoaned the return on the Andre Drummond trade, expecting the Detroit Pistons to get more back than two expiring contracts and a 2023 second-round pick. While future cap flexibility is the way the front office undoubtedly envisioned this return, there are still names attached to the expiring contracts and both have played well in their short time in the Motor City.
John Henson has found himself in the starting lineup more often than not so far for this team, most of which can be attributed to the thin forward rotation so far. His per-36 minute numbers are impressive in his 11 games, but the important part is the hustle he has played with.

Mentoring the younger guys is the best way for the 29-year old former North Carolina Tar Heel to find his next home. Showing them how important motor and drive is, even in the dog days of the season, is invaluable for molding a winning culture during a rebuild. Henson is showing them that hard work pays off and even in losses if you are giving maximum effort you will find a spot.
Similarly, Brandon Knight’s return to the Detroit Pistons has been fun as well. In a small sample size he is off to his best stretch since his Phoenix Suns days and is showing potential suitors this summer he can play in the right role. He is inefficient from short range but has lit it up from 3-point range.
Health is the biggest issue for both of these players, as they are both currently dealing with issues. They are both entering into the locker room veteran phase of their career and have showcased their skills in that regard well.
