Celtics Start Off Slow to Begin 2020, but Future is Bright

Unfortunately, that team spirit didn’t carry onto the court for the beginning of the New Year. After a good win to start 2020, the team went on a relatively cold streak, losing to the likes of the Washington Wizards, Detroit Pistons, Philadelphia 76ers, and the San Antonio Spurs. In total, the C’s found themselves in two three-game losing streaks in the month of January.

Despite the losses, Kemba Walker never said anything negative to the public. He consistently had faith in his teammates, the coaching staff, and anybody else involved with the team. It seemed impossible to rattle him, from a mindset perspective.

A loss to the Suns sparked a change in the locker room, and the team responded with a beatdown of the Lakers. Following that decisive game, the Celtics have gone on to win 10 of their last 11, and seven in a row. Most recently was a road game against the Oklahoma City Thunder in which Kemba put the home team out of reach with back-to-back clutch threes.

The Boston Celtics currently sit third in the East, behind the Raptors and the Milwaukee Bucks. They are within striking distance of the Raps, but Toronto is on a historic run of their own.

Kemba Walker, although maybe not the star of the team, has been the team’s most consistent player.  In the games where he has it going, Kemba gets the ball and makes some magic happen, like he’s done many times.

The real great part of his game, though, comes when the shots are not falling. Just by watching games of theirs, one can see how Kemba willingly defers to the talented individuals alongside him, and lets them get their own points and shots. He knows how to balance his offense with his teammates’, and that is a skill that only a select amount of players have in today’s league.

Walker does not have an ego whatsoever, and for a team in desperate need for a leader after a dark start to free agency, Kemba stepped up and took on the challenge. And so far, it’s impossible to deny that he has been everything the Celtics needed, and then some. If his unselfish play continues, this Boston Celtics team could very well be looking at their first Finals appearance in  a decade.
