Atlanta Hawks

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported the Atlanta Hawks are actively engaged in trade talks for Drummond.  This is a little confusing considering the Detroit Pistons will not give Drummond up for nothing and the Hawks may be paying for a two-month rental.

There is a good chance that the Hawks front office is hoping for those two months to sell Drummond on the franchise. If he opting out for free agency as suggested, the Hawks also have only $33 million in committed salary next season.

So, this leads us to what trade the Hawks might be willing to make in order to secure Drummond’s services.

While this seems to be a lot for the Hawks to give up on a maybe, the Pistons are not going to give up a player like Drummond for a small return. Evan Turner is on an expiring deal at $18.6 million. If he does not work out the Pistons can just let him walk.

The real haul for the Pistons is the 2020 first-round pick which will likely be top five and the services of Kevin Huerter. The second-year shooting guard is averaging 11.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. Tim Frazier is in the deal to match salaries

Under normal circumstances the Pistons would ask for more. They will not be able to thanks to Drummond announcing his intentions.

What the Hawks would be hoping for is that Drummond forms a chemistry with Trae Young, De’Andre Hunter, Cam Reddish, John Collins and Jabari Parker. If this happens, they may have secured their best team since the 60-win 2014-15 season.
