New York Knicks: 3 New Year’s resolutions for 2020
2. Make the easy shots
It is no secret that the Knicks haven’t been shooting all that well during the 2019-20 season. The numbers speak for themselves, though a simple glance at a televised game would do the same job just fine.
The truth is that this team would have a significantly improved record if the players could capitalize on the easy shots. And when we’re talking about easy, we mean the easiest of shots an NBA player can take in an NBA game.
From a free-throw standpoint, the Knicks are dead-last in the NBA in percentage, shooting a horrendous 69.0 percent from the charity stripe. In comparison, the league average is 76.9 percent from the line meaning that the Knicks make nearly eight fewer free-throws per 100 attempts than an average team.
Of the 13 players that are getting daily playtime with the Knicks, nine are making less than 70.0 percent of their free-throws. Looking for the struggles of the team? Look no further.
As if free-throw shooting struggles weren’t enough, it seems like the Miller’s/Fizdale’s men tend to fail to capitalize on the close shots as well. The Knicks are –once again– last in the NBA in shooting from within five feet from the basket, making just 55.6 percent of those attempts.
