5. Envious Depth

The Sacramento Kings have quietly built one of the deepest rosters in the league this summer. A second unit consisting of players such as Harry Giles, Nemanja Bjelica and Trevor Ariza will be a nightmare matchup for most teams second unit.

Envious eyes will be cast towards the Kings’ strength in depth throughout the season, especially with their ability to rotate their starters based on match-ups.

There are pitfalls with this level of depth though. A glance east will provide Luke Walton with food for thought. Spectacularly imploding during the previous season, the Boston Celtics failed to live up to the lofty expectations put on them in part due to their strength in depth.

While the Kings are not blessed with star names like Kyrie Irving or Al Horford, the lessons should be the same. Longer tenured players will feel entitled to a certain amount of minutes, requiring excellent man-management to navigate the locker room.

The Kings do not have those same expectations on their shoulders either, coming into the season just looking for improvement.

Young, exciting and full of potential, the Kings’ core is firmly in place. Surrounded by veteran leadership, they will only get better while having the luxury of a roster deep enough that their minutes can be managed.
