Cleveland Cavaliers: Each core players ceiling this season
By Tony Pesta
6. Kevin Porter Jr.
Ceiling: Rising Star
The Cleveland Cavaliers felt like they landed a steal when they drafted Kevin Porter Jr. with the No. 30 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Porter was projected to go as high as the lottery but fell to the bottom of the first round for Cleveland to swoop him up.
This high-flying athlete showed a skill for creating his shot last year with USC. The 6’6″ guard averaged 9.2 points on 41.2 percent shooting from deep and a 47.1 percent clip overall. In just 22.1 minutes of playing time per game, Porter managed to have a positive impact on the Trojans offense.
With proper development, Porter could transform into an effective two-way player. He has the physical build needed to become a solid defender but still has a raw offensive game that needs to be polished.
It’s unlikely that Porter will put all of these things together in one season. However, it is possible that he can take some serious steps forward and earn a spot on the NBA Rising Stars Team at All-Star Weekend.
