3. Svi Mykhailiuk

Svi Mykhailiuk is probably not on your radar and this may be a surprise considering he was traded to the Detroit Pistons in February. Before being traded, he was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 47th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

Sadly, Mykhailiuk didn’t get to showcase his talent as much because of the Lakers over-saturated backcourt.

The Kansas product had to fight for minutes with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Josh Hart and Lance Stephenson.

Last season, Mykhailiuk made use of his limited minutes in Los Angeles and averaged 3.3 points while playing 10.8 minutes per game. He only suited up for three games with the Pistons but averaged 2 points, 1.3 assists and shot 50 percent from three.

Assuming that the 6-foot-8 guard makes the roster (which he should) he will get a chance to compete for solid minutes in the rotation.

Granted Derrick Rose could see time at both the point and shooting guard position, but Mykhailiuk’s size gives him the ability to play small forward behind Tony Snell.

An area that the Pistons need to improve in is their 3-point shooting (34.8 percent) which has slowly started to improve. Mykhailiuk can shoot the 3 and space the floor. But he needs consistent minutes to gain rhythm and confidence to become the shooter this team needs.

Playing under Casey will help him develop his confidence, basketball IQ and floor positioning. In Los Angeles, he didn’t have time to develop because Luke Walton was coaching for his job every night (unfortunately).
