2. Can Donovan Mitchell take the next leap forward?

The star player on the Utah Jazz for the past few years has long been known as Donovan Mitchell. He’s been the primary option on offense, and his defensive responsibilities have increased from his rookie year to sophomore year.

He took a step forward last season, increasing nearly all of his statistics from his rookie campaign. Many wonder what’s next for him, and if he can take that next step for the team to be successful.

The piece of the game that he needs to learn, though, may not show up in the stat sheet. This will be the first year in his career that he has people around him that can put the ball in the basket. From Conley and Bogdanovic to Ingles, there are some serious scorers on the team.

Mitchell will need to realize that he won’t have the ball as often, but he should be okay with that. He presents himself as one of the more humble players in the league and should be fine with taking a backseat on some nights.

Statistically speaking, Mitchell can improve on things like his defense and even his playmaking. He can be a secondary facilitator next to Mike Conley and form one of the more deadly backcourts in the league.

In the end, Mitchell will need to become okay with deferring to other players on some nights when his shot isn’t falling. If he can trust his teammates. that will only help the Jazz push further into the playoffs come April of next year.
