3. Shot selection

Like many inexperienced players, Cedi Osman struggled with shot selection. Though he isn’t a rookie, Osman has never had to produce at a high level in the NBA.

The Cleveland Cavaliers asked Osman to be one of their main offensive options, meaning the learning curve was steep for this young prospect.

For the most part, Osman attempted quality shots. On the season, he shot a decent 42.7 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from the 3-point line. However, these numbers could have been even better had he slowed down sometimes.

One of Osman’s greatest strengths is his ability to attack the rim. The only problem is, he often takes the ball straight into the teeth of the defense and has no option other than to force up a bad shot.

More often than not, these situations end with Osman getting his shot rejected:

Here is another example of Osman attempting a layup over very solid defense:

Perhaps Osman would be better off looking to pass in these circumstances. A quick dump off to Larry Nance Jr. in the above play would have been beautiful for an easy dunk. If the pass isn’t there, then a hard jump stop would at least keep the play alive.

Moving forward, Cedi needs to learn when to attack and when to pass. Furthermore, he has to understand what the defense is giving him and do a better job of picking quality shots, rather than forcing contested ones.
