Jodie Meeks

Raptors fans can be forgiven for forgetting Jodie Meeks is on the roster and under contract, at least for a few more days.

The shooting guard initially joined the team on a 10-day contract in February. His brief tenure wasn’t particularly inspiring and he was not brought back on a second 10-day contract after the first expired. At the end of March, however, the team brought him in for the remainder of the season.

Meeks managed to squeeze himself into 14 postseason contests, but saw his most essential skill fail him when he needed it most: his 3-point shot. Meeks knocked down just 15.4 percent of his 3-point shots in the playoffs, hampering his narrative of being a 3-and-D guy.

This was not a banner year for Meeks off the court either. He concluded the 2017-18 season with a 25-game suspension for violating the anti-drug program, discipline that followed him way into this current campaign.

The hype that followed Meeks out of Kentucky never paid off in the pros. He averaged 15.7 points per game in an unusual season with the Los Angeles Lakers, but otherwise averaged double-figure scoring only two other times in his career. He’ll be 32 years old when the 2019-20 season starts.

If Danny Green ends up walking, Meeks might have some value at the very end of the bench. It seems more likely, however, that he will enter the summer in search of his eighth NBA team.

Verdict: Sell
