Dallas Mavericks

Isaiah Roby (No. 45)

The deal made to acquire Luka Doncic is one the Dallas Mavericks would do again and again. One of the cons of that trade, however, was the relinquishment of their first round pick shipped to the Atlanta Hawks.

Without a clear-cut option on the wing, Dallas decided to try out Isaiah Roby in the second round, who has the tools necessary to develop into a capable 3-and-D wing. He’s got good size at his position who can rebound the basketball with an unselfish attitude.

His 3-point shot is a work in progress at 33.3 percent, but he can handle the ball and attack the basket. Roby also averaged 1.9 blocks per game and can combine with Kristaps Porzingis to form a terrifying wall around the rim.

Dallas had traded down with Detroit from pick No. 37. In Roby, it still managed to acquire a potential impact player with a skill-set that, should it develop, will fit nicely into the team’s core.

Grade: B-
