3. Andre Drummond‘s shooting

Coming into the season, outside of a full year with Blake Griffin after an offseason to get acquainted, Andre Drummond’s ability to shoot from 3-point range was one of the biggest talking points for the Pistons.

However, with the season finally over, it was confirmed how that was all talk as Drummond continued to struggle outside of three feet. He shot just 5-of-38 on 3-point attempts in 2018-19. That translates to a lowly 13.7 percent conversion rate, for those of you keeping track at home.

Not only did Drummond struggle on 3-point shots, but he was below 40 percent from every range outside of three feet. The Pistons were hoping for some development in that area, but he just hasn’t shown an increased sense of touch from outside. It’s also unlikely that he’s ever going to develop that skill. He’s already heading into his age-26 season, and he hasn’t shown any signs of marked improvement to this stage of his career.

NBA centers are getting better and better at defending near the rim, and that only spells more bad news for Drummond and the Pistons. They rely on him for a consistent source of offense, and he can’t provide that on a nightly basis. They need to add more shooting around Griffin, and that isn’t going to come from Drummond based on what we saw in the 2018-19 season.
