Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 candidates for the head coach position
By Tony Pesta
3. Avery Johnson
By bringing in former Alabama head coach Avery Johnson, the Cleveland Cavaliers would be reuniting Collin Sexton and his former college coach.
Sexton has quickly become a key member of the Cavaliers core. His stellar rookie numbers of 16.7 points, 3.0 assists and 2.9 rebounds a game should be enough to help him earn First-Team All-Rookie honors. His development will be huge for this team as they rebuild.
One way to speed up the development of Sexton would likely be to bring in Johnson. In their only season together, Sexton averaged 19.2 points as Johnson helped coach the team to their first NCAA Tournament birth since 2012.
Johnson had done a solid job in Alabama with a 75-62 record and never had a losing season in his four years with the team. He has previously coached the New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets as well as the Dallas Mavericks with a Finals appearance to his name back in 2006.
Bringing Sexton and his old coach back together could be a recipe for success. If Johnson is interested in taking the job, he would have an instant connection with the team.
