9. Bulls hand Miami Heat another home loss

Most of Chicago’s season has been mired with multiple losing streaks, but they came into this Jan. 30 matchup in pretty dire straits. Sitting at a whopping 29 games under .500, the Bulls had posted just one win since the flip of the calendar year and they had dropped 13 of their previous 14 contests.

With the hopes of contending for a postseason berth being nothing more than pipe dream for this ball club, the team’s head coach implored that his players not view the remaining slate of games as meaningless.

"“I just think you make it a competitive experience,” Boylen told ESPN. “Look, this game today is what the league’s about. You get in late after a competitive game and now you’re playing at the Miami Heat, a great franchise. Now, a competitive person takes that challenge.”"

It seemed that the players got the memo, as the Bulls stormed out to a 10-point lead after the first quarter. Although they did find themselves trailing by six points in the third quarter, they went on an 18-5 run over the next five minutes and closed out the period with a 7-0 run, to take a 10-point lead into the fourth.

The Bulls maintained their lead over the Heat in the final frame en route to a 105-89 victory, giving them just their second win during the month of January and dropping the Heat to 11-14 at home. Former Bull Bobby Portis led all scorers with 26 points — 22 of which came after halftime.
