1. Better individual statistics

The No. 1 reason Collin Sexton should be a member of the All-Rookie First Team is that he has better individual statistics than his competition.

Let’s get a few things out of the way first. There is no debate that Trae Young is a lock for the first guard spot. This means that there is one other space for Sexton to make the cut. When looking at the stats, Sexton deserves this selection over any other rookie guard.

His competition for the last spot would likely be Shai Gilgeous-Alexandar, Landry Shamet and Alonzo Trier. Of these players, Sexton averages the most points. He also ranks second in assists and rebounds, while shooting the second-best percentage from the 3-point line and third-best from the field overall.

Sexton has more double-digit scoring games than every other rookie in that previous list and has more 20-point games than all of them combined. To top it off, Sexton has the second-most double-doubles of these players behind only Trier.

Outside of team success, Sexton has beaten his competition in nearly every other measure. It should be noted that he is the only rookie besides Young and Luka Doncic in the top six for both points and assists. If Sexton doesn’t earn First Team All-Rookie honors, it will truly be a disappointment.
