3. Point guards are hard to come by

In today’s league, it’s hard to find a solid point guard who can elevate his teammates, run the offense and score when needed. Russell has taken advantage of being the go-to guy in Brooklyn.

Since being drafted in 2015, the crafty guard has continued to improve in every aspect of his game. His rookie year, he only averaged 3.3 assists per game. Considering the fact that he played with Kobe Bryant, his assists should have been higher.

Nonetheless, Russell continues to increase his assists per game. At the end of his sophomore season, he finished the season averaging 4.8 assists a night, and the following season he finished the season averaging 5.2 dimes per contest.

Right now the fourth-year guard is averaging 6.4 assists per game, which is huge considering his leadership role in Brooklyn. Obviously scoring is important too, but Russell has no problem scoring either, whether it’s by using the pick-and-roll, creating space off the dribble or by attacking the rim.

This season the 22-year-old has scored 30 or more points nine times, which proves he can carry the scoring load at times. One thing to remember is he’s only 22 years old and has not even reached his ceiling yet.

Russell is a great point guard who gets overshadowed by Kyrie Irving, Ben Simmons, Russell Westbrook, Damian Lillard, Stephen Curry and Chris Paul.

Brooklyn needs to sign Russell in order to secure a solid point guard who can score, distribute and convert in the clutch. Not to mention, every franchise needs a staple player in order to entice free agents to sign on the dotted line.
