Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 trade possibilities for J.R. Smith
By Tony Pesta
3. Minnesota Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves have failed to take the next step in their rebuilding process. Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins were hopeful that this would be the year they got over the hump and became a lock for the playoffs.
Unfortunately, Minnesota hasn’t looked much different and currently sits in 11th place in the Western Conference. The Wolves are three games back from the 8-seed, but it feels like this team is doomed to miss the postseason once again.
Trading for J.R. Smith might not save their season, but adding a veteran presence could help more than people realize. Smith has been in just about every situation imaginable and I’m sure he could have a positive impact on this team.
The Wolves have a serious 3-point shooting problem. As a team, they make the eighth-fewest 3-pointers in the league and only have one playing shooting above 40 percent from deep. This is where Smith’s specialty as a shooter would come in handy.
In return, Cleveland brings home two players to add some depth to the roster. Jerryd Bayless and Anthony Tolliver both have 10 years of playing experience. Having players with multiple seasons under their belt will be huge for Cleveland, which has been putting out a rotation of G League call-ups on a nightly basis.
